Dear Chamber Members,

On Monday, August 9 the Chamber's Legislative Committee will meet from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at Hotel Arista, 2139 CityGate Lane. You can download the full meeting agenda and packet at: http://naper.cc/d9XH0W.

At this month's meeting the Committee will begin discussions and deliberations on two proposals that would alter the form of Naperville's municipal government, the institution of term limits and district or ward representation.

In addition, with just a few weeks to go before the start of school and Last Fling, the Committee will receive updates on the progress of major construction projects. Speaking on those topics will be City Engineer, Bill Novack and District 203 Superintendent, Mark Mitrovich.

Finally, the Committee will evaluate, H.R. 1586 the "FAA Air Transportation and Modernization and Safety Improvement Act," which the U.S. Senate passed earlier this week and the House is scheduled to return for a vote on the bill on Tuesday. The legislation provides billions in financial aid to states for public aid and to stave off education cuts. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce notes that bill contains large tax increases, "the impact of which has never been adequately assessed through hearings in the relevant Committees of jurisdiction."

Don't forget to register for the Chamber's special breakfast on Tuesday, August 17, "The U.S.-Korea Partnership: Growing Jobs Across America," with Ambassador Han of the Republic of South Korea. This is a rare opportunity to meet with a high ranking diplomatic official.

All Chamber Members are welcome and encouraged to attend Legislative Committee meetings. The meetings are free to attend and no RSVP's are necessary, but a suggested donation of $10 is requested to offset meeting costs.

If you have any questions about the Legislative Committee, the Chamber's Advocacy Agenda, or have difficulty accessing the packet, don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your continued support of the Chamber. You are 'the business voice.'

Sincerely,
